Covenant Lutheran Church uses music to encourage individuals to worship God, to engage the congregation in corporate praise to God, and to communicate God’s word. We believe that music is a gift from God and with it, we are able to offer our thanks and praise to the Divinity in a very unique way. As with any offering we bring to God, our musical offerings should be the absolute best we can give. We believe that music we experience publicly at CLC should be consistently excellent.
How do I get connected?
There are several ways to serve in the music program – the Praise Band, Adult Choir, Handbell Choir, and Dive Praise Band. All ensembles are open to musicians of at least high school age.
Praise Band – Participation in this ensemble requires at least an intermediate level of skill, since the praise band is largely responsible for leading congregational worship. Singers should have excellent intonation (singing in tune), be able to harmonize and sing contemporary music in the appropriate style (non-classical), to sing by ear and read music notation (the latter is preferred, but not required). Instrumentalists should be able to improvise, have good rhythm, be able to play a variety of styles (rock, folk, gospel primarily), be able to read chord charts and music notation (the latter is preferred, but not required). One of the most important aspects of singing/playing with the praise band is being flexible. The praise band is open to singers, guitarists, bassists, drummers/percussionists, and monophonic instruments (one-voice instruments, such as flute, trumpet, violin, or viola). To be a part of this ensemble, one must contact the director of music to schedule an interview. This band performs at the 9:45 and 11:00 Sunday morning services.
Adult Choir – Not surprisingly, the most important skill needed in order to participate in this ensemble is the ability to sing. It is desirable and helpful to have the ability to read music notation, but it is not a mandatory requirement. In order to participate in the adult choir, one should contact the director of music to schedule an interview. This choir typically performs one special musical piece every Sunday morning at either the 8:25 or the 11:00 service.
Handbell Choir – Participation in this group requires a love of music and the ability to keep time (count!). The ability to read music notation is very helpful, but not necessarily required. The desire to learn and to be flexible is very important, but it is essential that a commitment is made to be at every rehearsal if at all possible. It is not conducive to effective rehearsals if participants are missing each week. Each member of the group is essential! The Handbell Choir performs approximately once a month, during either the 8:25 or 11:00 a.m. service, or whenever we have a piece ready to perform. To participate in the Handbell Choir, one should contact Sue Tabbert (

DIVE Praise Band – The qualifications for DIVE band members are similar to those for the Praise Band. Playing/singing in this ensemble requires flexibility, versatility, and good overall musicianship. As with other ensembles, if one desires to be a part of this band, contact the director of music for an interview. This band performs approximately twice a month on Monday evenings for DIVE (worship service for youth).
